Destination Artist

Hi, I’m Lauren, an Oregon girl drawing comics around the World!!

For over seven years, I’ve been working my way around the world, one country at a time. Whether you’re a long-term traveler or a weekend warrior, these tips, photos and comics will awaken your desire to explore the world around you and all of its wild spaces.

Originally from the Pacific Northwest, I spent my childhood hiking waterfalls, swimming in local rivers, and exploring forest trails. I loved telling stories with illustrations, photography and words, and daydreamed about traveling the World like my grandparents. After graduating with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts Photography from the University of Oregon, I was lost and unsure what path to take next. My head (and parents) said get a career and settle down, but my heart said one thing, Travel. So I bought a one way ticket and traveled solo through Southeast Asia, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Africa.

I sold all of my belongings, quit my job, left my loving boyfriend and kickass house behind and became a solo female traveler, working my way around the world one country at a time.

Since then, I’ve stripped butt naked in front of an entire tribe in Africa. I’ve gone scuba diving with sharks in the Great Barrier Reef (at night!) I’ve lived in a bamboo hut practicing yoga and meditation on the border of Myanmar. I’ve jumped out of a perfectly good airplane in Australia and walked across the Great Wall of China. I’ve hitchhiked across Tasmania and trekked solo through New Zealand.

Six years later, the journey continues.

What started out as a simple online journal to share my travels with my family and friends back home is now the site you see before you. I’m currently in Australia, where I continue to find adventures and document them through various art forms, including photography and my travel comic Love & Travel.
